Case Study

Hull Philharmonic Orchestra

Hull Philharmonic is always up for a challenge.
As one of the UK's leading community orchestras, it takes on the pieces the others seldom play. One such is the Rite of Spring, which provoked a riot on its Paris premiere in 'the most famous scandal in the history of the arts' back in 1913.

Mapa is up for a challenge too – to attract audiences to live music when there are many other attractions. For the Rite of Spring, a publicity stunt of renowned pianist Peter Donohoe with two top-hatted gentlemen having a difference of opinion in the background set the scene.

The holistic PR effort helped to attract a full house to Hull's cavernous City Hall. The Hull Philharmonic also draws sizeable audience for popular classics and we help them through PR, branding, social media, advertising and literature.

'We asked Mapa for their professional advice on all matters relating to our image and publicity. This has been reflected in a large increase in our audience' – Andrew Penny, musical director
