‘Fun in the sun’ donations boost Dove House

Great Newsome Brewery’s annual charity ‘Festivale’ has brought a £3,500 boost for the vital work of Dove House Hospice.

The brewery chose Dove House as this year’s beneficiary in memory of an employee, Shaun McKinley, who died last October aged 53. Profits from the bar and quiz totalled £3,100 and £400 given to the band Morning Dew has also been donated to the charity.

The Festivale, held at the brewery’s Great Newsome Farm, South Frodingham on June 23, again enjoyed perfect weather as festival-goers gathered for music, food, games – and craft beer.

“Shaun worked for us for four years but many of us had known him for much longer,” said Great Newsome director Matthew Hodgson.

“For many years Shaun was the groundsman and a player at our local cricket club in Patrington. We had perfect cricket weather and I am sure he would have very much enjoyed the day.

“Dove House is a local charity that does a tremendous amount of good and is close to our hearts.”

Jethro Shearring, Dove House’s corporate fundraising coordinator, said donations from individuals, groups and businesses helped them to continue to be the leading palliative care provider across the region.

“We’re incredibly grateful to all at Great Newsome for their generosity in donating all the profits from the Festivale. I know a huge amount of hard work went into making the day such a success.

“Donations such as this allow us to be there for all those who need us most.”

Mr Hodgson added: “We had a truly great day with more than 600 coming along. There was plenty to entertain all ages and also the chance to go behind the scenes and see our award-winning craft beers being made.

"Unsurprisingly, there was talk about the current CO2 shortage. It remains a problem for the brewing industry, but we were able to reassure visitors that it won’t affect our craft beers and there’s no immediate threat to our bottled and our new keg range."

Local bands Licks, Morning Dew, Stoney Creek Boys and Scandalous Jazz entertained at the event and there was street food from Pie and Fountells.
